a pig. Pigs are always called hogs in America, even when named figuratively. It takes almost exclusively the place of the English “swine”, which is rarely heard in the U.S.

He joined himself with a citizen of the country. And the citizen give him two big slop buckets to go slop the hogs. Think of a place and who's...?... boy out there slopping hogs in the pig pen, away from mother, away from the religion that he once had, to keep away from hogs, now he was rooting at.
