Maginot line 3

1.

a line of impregnable forts which would forever insure the French against invasion by Germany. It was named after its inventor, André Maginot, minister of war in France (1922-24, 1929-32). However, the Germans invaded through Belgium, leaving the forts intact.

The French, on the Maginot line, thought there'd be no more wars after the first World War, after Canada, and the United States, and so forth, went over and drove the Germans back. They made the Siegfried line. And when they did (I believe it was called the Maginot line) they put the guns out, facing over the Rhine, over into Germany, and said, "If Germany ever marches on us again, we're fortified."
